In Syracuse’s 5-set heartbreaking home loss to Florida State on Sunday afternoon, Polina Shemanova made history with her 30-kill performance. She is the first freshman in program history to compile 30 kills in a match and the first Orange player overall to register 30 or more kills in a single match since the 2006 season.
The 6-0 outside hitter has been a leader for Syracuse all year, as she leads the team with 292 kills (4.42 per set) through 16 matches. Shemanova, who is hitting .269 on the season, also paces the Orange with 162 digs (2.45 per set) and has tallied 38 blocks (0.58 per set).

The St. Petersburg, Russia, native has been recognized as ACC Freshman of the Week on Sept. 24 and was selected MVP of the UConn Invitational. Shemanova has contributed double figure kill totals in 15 of 16 matches played, surpassing the 20-kill mark on 8 occasions.
Before joining the Orange, Shemanova helped the Russian Junior National Team to a 3rd place result at the U18 World Championship. She was named MVP of the Russian Championships for her efforts.
Syracuse has played its way to a 10-6 record overall and a 6-2 mark in ACC play. The Orange, who were chosen to finish 7th in VolleyMob’s preseason conference projection, are currently tied for 4th in the ACC with Miami.
