The AVCA has released its final 2017 NCAA Men’s Division I-II Coaches’ Poll, and it comes as little surprise that Ohio State has been selected as the unanimous #1 team in the country after winning their 2nd-straight NCAA title and 3rd of the decade.
In the final poll of the regular season, Long Beach State had been the #1 team, receiving 20 of the 24 votes after winning the MPSF title. In the tournament, though, Long Beach State was rolled out in the semi-finals thanks to a 32-0 sweep by conference foes BYU. That jumped BYU all the way from #4 to #2, and left Long Beach State 3rd.
Hawaii, the other semi-final loser (they fell 3-0 to eventual champions Ohio St., finish the season at #4.
The only other change in the poll is that Penn St. (21-11) jumped ahead of USC (14-14) and Ball State (19-10) for the #10 spot. Penn State finished their season in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament, where they pushed Hawaii to 5 sets. Neither USC nor Ball St. qualified for the NCAA tournament, nor for the finals of their respective conference championship tournaments.
