After three days of pool play matches at the Gstaad Major, American’s Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena arise as their pools winner, advancing on to the elimination portion of the tournament with a bye.
On their final day of play, Dalhausser/Lucena took down fellow American’s Theo Brunner/Casey Patterson 2-0, (21-12, 21-18). The win secured their 3-0 pool record and the first round bye in the next phase of the major. The second place finishers in the pools will take on the third-place finishers to determine the rest of the elimination round field.
For Dalhausser, the Gstaad stop this year is the 104th FIVB World Tour event he has participated in. Gstaad is the event that Dalhausser has visited most in his career, with this being his 10th stop in the Swiss Alps village. The win against Brunner/Patterson was his 50th in Gstaad over his career in 61 matches.
With former partner, Todd Rogers, the pair won two titles in Gstaad, he also won the Gstaad title with Sean Rosenthal in 2014.
Other teams advancing with byes in the first round of the elimination portion of the Gstaad Major are – Alvaro Filho/Saymon Barbosa (Brazil), Evandro Goncalves/Andre Loyola(Brazil), Piotr Kantor/Bartosz Losiak (Poland), Taylor Crabb/Jake Gibb (USA), Sam Pedlow/Sam Schachter (Canada), Anders Mol/Christian Sorum (Norway) and Sergio Gonzalez/Nivaldo Diaz (Cuba).
