Alabama’s Krystal Rivers Wins SEC Player of the Week Honors

SEC Volleyball Week 2 Player of the Week:

Offensive Player of the Week:

Krystal Rivers • Alabama Redshirt Senior • RS • 5-11 • Birmingham, Ala.

Rivers averaged 5.24 kills and 6.03 points per set over four matches this past week for the Crimson Tide. She posted two double-doubles, against Virginia Tech (22K, 14D) and Temple (24K, 13D), at the Puerto Rico Clasico. Rivers moved into fourth all-time in career kills at Alabama with 1,597, and just needs 17 kills to move into third place. She also ranks third all-time at Alabama in career kills-per-set (4.06). Rivers has earned double-digit kills in every match so far this season and leads the SEC with 154 kills and 5.13 per set.

Defensive Player of the Week:

Jesse Earl • Auburn Junior • L • 5-8 • Indianapolis, Ind.

Earl finished this past week with a 4.94 digs/set average. She set a season best with 28 digs against Santa Clara, while adding 14 assists vs. the Broncos for her first double-double of the season. Earl added 26 digs in the five-set victory over Kennesaw State Tuesday, and 17 in Auburn’s win at #21 Louisville. In addition, she was solid from the service line all week. After having three aces vs. the Owls, Earl followed with four in the team’s 3-0 win over Stony Brook. That mark tied a career-best, helping the Tigers reach 11 aces in the match.

Setter of the Week:

Aubrey Edie • Ole Miss Senior • 6-0 • Fayetteville, Ark.

Edie was named MVP of the Rebel Classic after leading Ole Miss to its 10th straight regular season tournament title. She averaged 11.17 assists per set in setting up the Rebels to hit .286 for the weekend. Five hitters hit over .200, including All-Tournament team members Kathryn Cather at .339 and Taylor Alexander at .500. Edie hit .316 for the weekend herself with 10 kills. She also had 17 digs and five blocks, including combining on the block on match point to complete the rally against NC State. Edie became the Ole Miss career record holder for assists currently with 3,807. She now holds the single-match, single-season and career records in assists at Ole Miss.

Freshman of the Week:

Meghan Donovan • Georgia Freshman • S • 6-3 • St. Louis, Mo.

Donovan led Georgia to three wins in the Bulldogs’ first road trip of the season. She was named to Beantown Challenge All-Tournament Team after she dished out 118 assists while helping the team hit .312. Donovan notched her first double-double of career with season-best 46 assists and 12 digs in the comeback win at Boston College. She was third on the team with eight total blocks over the weekend, tallying a personal-best five blocks versus the Eagles.
