Former University of Nebraska Cornhusker Alex Ratzlaff will transfer to the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) in the fall. UMKC is a Division I program that plays in the Western Athletic Conference.
Ratzlaff redshirter her freshman season at Nebraska, meaning that she will still have 4 years of eligibility remaining.
According to the Omaha World Herald, Ratzlaff said that she received a full scholarship offer from UMKC in 2015 before choosing to walk-on, without a scholarship, at Nebraska.
Ratzlaff took the 2016 off to focus on her health.
“As most people don’t know, for the last several years I have struggled with anxiety attacks, self harm, and severe bouts of depression,” Ratzlaff wrote on her Twitter account at the time of her decision. “This has severely hindered my ability to be the best sister, daughter, friend, teammate and student I could be.
“With this message I ask for prayer as I move forward. There are people who need to see that others have the same struggles, and I hope to be the person that they can relate to.”
Ratzlaff is originally from Hillsboro, Kansas and was a MaxPreps Small Schools All-American as a senior. She won 2 state championships with Hillsboro, as a freshman and a sophomore, and averaged 7 kills and 5.8 digs in her last season.
