After finishing up her undergrad and four years at Wayne State, Alyssa Frauendorfer will try her hand at basketball for Nebraska-Kearney next season.
Frauendorfer has an impressive volleyball resume coming out of her four years with Wayne State, including: the only player in program history to be named an AVCA All-American four times, a four-time All-NSIC pick and the 2014 Freshman of the Year. Three times in her career Wayne State was able to reach the NCAA Tournament, with one year that reached the Elite Eight.
In the 2016 season, Frauendorfer, a middle hitter, averaged 3.01 kills per set and 0.75 blocks per set while hitting for .345.
Frauendorfer is Nebraska-Kearney’s first-ever women’s basketball graduate transfer.
“We are really excited that Alyssa will be joining our program. She is a winner in every sense of the word. She has had success in everything she’s been involved in throughout her time as a student-athlete,” said head basketball coach Carrie Eighmey.
In her prep basketball career with Humphrey High School, Frauendorfer averaged 25.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game as a senior in 2013. With these impressive stats she was named honorary captain of the Omaha World Herald’s Class D-2 all-state team. She was also a three-time all-state pick and named the Huskerland Prep D-2 Player of the Year.
Last season, Nebraska-Kearney went 12-16 on the season, finishing eighth in the MIAA and reaching the conference tournament.
