American national teamer Thomas Jaeschke will head to Italy to join Verona’s BluVolley team.
Jaeschke is one of five major players leaving Polish club Asseco Resovia this offseason. He only played half of last season as he was finishing a college degree in the United States, but did compete for Asseco Resovia starting in December.
Jaeschke broke the news of his new home on Instagram, announcing he’d be jumping in with BluVolley for the next two years. Jaeschke also jokingly noted that he doesn’t yet speak Italian, asking for tutoring help:
BluVolley competes in the A1 series of the Italian Volleyball League and won the CEV Challenge Cup in 2016. Last season, the BluVolley team featured only one American: Samuel Holt, who played outside hitter. Jaeschke is also an outside hitter, standing at 6-foot-6 (1.98 meters) and is just 23 years old. He was part of the bronze medal-winning American team at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and also won bronze with Team USA in the World League in 2015.
