The 2017 high school season is right around the corner, with many teams around the country well into their second week of practice or beyond. With that, USA Today has announced their Super 25 Expert Rankings to start off the season.
These rankings, do come before the season even begins, therefore are based on the strength of the returners for each team and how they finished in the 2016 season.
The top-five ranked teams come from around the country, starting with Assumption in Louisville, Kentucky. Last year they lost to Sacred Heart in the Regional Finals, but are returning four seniors, two juniors and one sophomore who all have selected Division I programs for their collegiate futures. Hebron and Skutt Catholic each won their second straight State Championships to end up as the #2 and #3 ranked teams, respectively. For Skutt, they are bringing in a strong freshman in Lindsay Krause, who recently announced her verbal commitment to Nebraska prior to her ever touching the gym floor at her high school. Mater Dei and Minooka round out the top five, each bringing in a strong set of returners for the 2017 season.
