The first week of the high school volleyball season has concluded, with standouts popping up all across the nation. MaxPreps and the AVCA have officially announced their week one High School Players of the Week.
The choices were made based on the player’s performance from August 21-August 27.
Arkansas
Lauren Thompson, a senior, helped Har-Ber High School to a 6-2 record over the weekend in 19 sets. During those 19 sets, Thompson posted 111 kills for an average of 5.8 kills per set, 46 digs, 12 aces and 10 blocks
California
Caitlin Liebe, a senior, posted 68 kills for an average of 5.2 kills per set, 28 digs, one ace and seven blocks for Saugus High School. Liebe’s contribution led her squad to a 5-1 record for the weekend in 13 sets played.
Colorado
Olivia Himmel, a junior, brought Highland High School to a 2-1 record in six sets with 32 kills for an average of 5.3 kills per set.
Florida
Kirbea Harrell, a senior at Fivay High School posted 40 kills for an average of 6.67 kills per set and 40 digs in the teams 2-0 weekend.
Georgia
Gabby Gonzales, a junior, helped Walton High School to an 11-0 start on the year with 97 kills for an average of 6.9 kills per set, 28 digs, six aces and four blocks.
Illinois
Charley Niego, a senior, posted 26 kills for an average of 6.5 kills per set, 21 digs, two aces and six blocks for Mother McAuley High School. The squad posted a 2-0 record.
Indiana
Marissa Hornung, a senior, helped Providence High School to a 6-1 record on 19 kills, 14 digs and two aces. Hornung averaged 6.3 kills per set and 4.67 digs per set.
Kansas
Kailey Jo Ince, a senior, posted 65 kills, 33 digs, three aces and four blocks for Hesston High School on their way to a 5-1 start.
Kentucky
Kelly Franxman, a senior, helped Scott High School to a 3-4 start with 44 kills for an average of 4.89 kills per set, 29 digs, five aces and one block.
Michigan
Lauren Bedard, a senior, posted 16 kills and 10 digs to help Andover High School to a 1-0 start.
Missouri
Madison McClain, a junior, put down 31 kills for an average of 7.75 kills per set, 19 digs, three aces and three blocks for Sacred Heart High School. The team posted a 2-0 record to start the season.
Mississippi
Emma Funk, a senior, helped Out Lady Academy to a 12-2 start with 100 kills for an average of 5.8 kills per set, 59 digs, six aces and one block.
Nebraska
Halle Meister, a senior, posted 19 kills for an average of 6.3 kills per set to help Roncalli Catholic High School to a 1-0 start.
Nevada
Maggie Roe, a senior, helped Boulder City High School to a 5-3 start with 64 kills, 55 digs, 20 aces and 17 blocks.
New Mexico
Hannah Johnson, a junior, helped Clayton High School to a 2-1 start on the year with 12 kills, two aces and five blocks.
North Carolina
Destiny Cox, a senior, led Carrboro High School to a 6-0 start with 39 kills, 15 digs, four aces and two blocks. Cox averaged 6.5 kills per set.
Ohio
Rachel Williamson, a senior, posted 83 kills for an average of 7.5 kills per set, 48 digs, two aces and nine blocks for Antwerp High School on their way to a 3-1 start.
Oklahoma
Kamryn Bacus, a sophomore, led Edmond North High School to a 10-4 start with 83 kills, 86 digs, 11 aces and 14 blocks
Oregon
Allie Slater, a senior, posted 45 kills and 47 digs for Imbler High School on their way to a 1-2 start.
South Carolina
Hailey Ryan, a senior, helped James Island High School to a 6-0 start with 87 kills, 63 digs, six aces and one block.
South Dakota
Mandy Schmidt, a junior, dished out 156 assists for an average of 9.75 assists per set, 42 digs and six aces for Michell High School. The team posted a 6-1 record to begin the season.
Tennessee
Taylor Lamb, a senior, put down 55 kills for an average of 6.1 kills per set and 16 digs for South Greene High School in the 11-1 start to the season.
Texas
Haley Vaughn, a senior, handed out 236 assists for an average of 11.8 assists per set, 31 kills, 46 digs, 16 aces and six blocks for Crawford High School. The team has posted a 21-6 record to start the season.
Utah
Sammie Osborne, a senior, dished out 160 assists for an average of 8.89 assists per set, 18 aces and six blocks for Mountain Crest High School on their way to an 8-1 start.
Virginia
Baileigh Edmonds, a junior at Peninsula Catholic High School, helped her team to a 5-0 start with 53 kills, 23 digs and five aces.
Wisconsin
Hannah Vanden Berg, a junior, posted 132 kills for an average of 7.76 kills per set, 78 digs, seven aces and 10 blocks for Little Chute High School on their way to an 8-0 start.
