Ball State Volleyball Notches 900th Program Win

Last Friday in its Mid-American Conference opener against Western Michigan, Ball State notched its 900th win in program history, 3-1.

Now amidst in its 47th season of volleyball, the Cardinals have amassed a 900-591-2 (.603) record. Ball State has earned 8 MAC regular season championships, 8 MAC West Division Championships, 6 MAC Tournament Championships and 8 NCAA Tournament appearances.

In its 8 NCAA appearances, the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Second Round twice, for the first time in 1994 and again in 1995. The program’s most recent NCAA appearance came in 2011.

The Cardinals have also posted 23 winning seasons, 19 20-win seasons, 5 25-win seasons and 1 30-win season.

3rd-year head coach Kelli Miller has led Ball State to a 42-34 (.553), including a 19-win total in 2017, the most for the program since the 2013 season. She was preceded by Dave Shondell, who guided the Cardinals to a 119-68 (.636) mark from 2010-15. David Boos (23 wins, 2007-09), Randy Litchfield (373 wins, 1989-2006), Jerre McManama (70 wins, 1983-88), Gail Webster (24 wins, 1976) and Barbara Curclo (240 wins, 1972-75; 1977-82) also led the Cardinals.

In 2018, the Cardinals are off to a 10-5 start and are 1-1 in MAC action with a win over Western Michigan, 3-1, and a loss to Northern Illinois, 3-1. In a vote of head coaches in the preseason, Ball State was selected to defend its championship in the MAC this year.
