Belogorie Belgorod of the Russian men’s Superleague will be without Denis Biriukov for a portion of the season due to an injury.

While it is unknown what the original injury is, Biriukov underwent surgery and will need four months to recover. With this, Biriukov’s contract with the team has been suspended until he is able to return to the court.

“We suspended the contract with Biriukov until the moment he recovers from the surgery, and we are looking forward to his return,” said Belogorie Sports Director, Taras Khtey.

The squad will openly reaccept Biriukov to the team following his recovering, needing him for the important home-stretch of the season. In the meantime, Ilya Spodobets from the Belogorie youth team to replace Biriukov. Three other players aside from Spodobets will fill the outside hitting position – Sergey Tetyukhin, Ian Iereshchenko and Konstantin Semenov.

Last season, Belogorie finished fourth in the regular season of the Russian Superleague with a 19-7 record. This was their overall finish for the season as well, as they lost to Novosibirsk in the bronze medal match.
