Big Ten Volleyball: Ranked Programs Take All Saturday

Ranked programs flexed their muscles in Big Ten Saturday action, as all three earned victories. 3rd-ranked Wisconsin and 8th-ranked Minnesota swept past Rutgers and Maryland, respectively, to move to 2-0, while 20th-ranked Purdue overcame Northwestern in 4 sets to move to 1-1 in conference play.

#3 Wisconsin def. Rutgers 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-10)

3rd-ranked Wisconsin was dominant in every aspect of the match, outperforming Rutgers in attack percentage (.455 to .056), blocks (11 to 2), and service aces (8 to 1) in its 3-0 victory.

The Badgers have never lost to the Scarlet Knights and own an 8-0 record in the series following the win.

#20 Purdue def. Northwestern 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-19)

Following a Big 12-opening loss to 8th-ranked Illinois, 20th-ranked Purdue rebounded with a 4-set victory over Northwestern Saturday night.

The Boilermakers hit .281, registered 11 blocks and took care of the volleyball for the win, while errors slowed the Wildcats.

#8 Minnesota def. Maryland 3-0 (25-19, 25-29, 25-18)

8th-ranked Minnesota cruised past Maryland in straight sets on Saturday in Maturi Pavilion to earn its second-straight Big Ten result and its 3rd win in a row.

The teams were even, 9-9, in blocks, but the Golden Gophers used a .252 attack percentage to key the win. It was another sellout in Maturi, as Minnesota welcomed 5,444 fans.
