Brayelin Martinez To Leave Italy For Bauru of Brazil’s Super League

Dominican national team star Brayelin Martinez will be leaving her Italian club to join Bauru of Brazil’s Super League.

Martinez, 20 years old, is one of the brightest young talents in the Dominican Republic. The 6-foot-7 Martinez can play tip or opposite hitter, according to Brazil’s For the Dominican Republic, she’s typically played at the outside hitter position. Her U23 teams won silver at the 2013 World Championships and bronze at the 2015 World Championships, and she’s won a host of other major medals, including gold at the U20 World Champs in 2015 and gold at the Pan-American Cup in 2014 and 2016.

She comes from a family of high-level athletes. Martinez’s sister Jineiry is also on the Dominican national team for volleyball, and her brother Bryan was signed a pitcher by the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball but wound up playing professional basketball in the Dominican Republic.

She’ll join Brazil’s Bauru club, which is trying to reload after a fifth-place finish in the Super League last season. She replaces the outgoing Priscila Rivera
