Buckeye’s Nicolas Szerszen Earns Seasons First AVCA Player Of The Week

After the first week of the men’s NCAA volleyball season, the AVCA has named the reigning AVCA Player of the Year, Nicolas Szerszen, as the seasons first Player of the Week.

Ohio State remains undefeated after the first week of play, having taken down USC and #2 UCLA. Against USC Szerszen put down 11 kills. His shining match of the week came to UCLA, when he put down a team-best 17 kills. Also, in the four set match-up, he hit a high .500, and tying for the team lead with seven digs. Szerszen also put down three blocks and three aces.

Szerszen hit for 3.5 kill per set, while hitting for .340 over the two matches played.

This is Szerszen’s second time receiving the honor in his career with Ohio State, the last coming last season on March 15th.

Overall, Ohio State has had 17 AVCA National Player of the Week honors.
