Budapest has never once hosted the Olympic Games is making their seventh bid for 2024. They are seen as an outsider choice in the race.

The Hungarians have expressed that they will only need to build three venues and will harness the rest of the events in the city center for the games.

“A Games for one mid-sized global city is a Games for all mid-sized global cities, across the world,” said bid chairman Balazs Furjes. “A Games in Budapest send the message that the Olympic Games are not simply for the mega-city, but for mid-sized cities, too.”

If Budapest earned the bid for 2024, there would be two proposed volleyball venues – one being a temporary facility and one existing.

The temporary facility is located just outside of the Danube Zone, where the largest cluster of events will be hosted. The Etele Volleyball Arena will host prelims along with the finals. The other location is at Főnix Hall, Debrecen, Hungary. This location is about a two hour and thirty minute drive from the heart of Budapest.

Főnix Hall will be able to seat around 8,500 fans for the event in the city of Debrecen, and is the second largest arena in Hungary. The Etele Square Volleyball Arena will be located in Etele Square of Budapest and has a capacity of 15,000 fans.

The International Olympic Committee will vote on the host city on September 13, 2017 in Lima, Peru.
