Central Catholic Wins First Oregon State Title Since 2011

The Oregon high school state tournament has come to a close, bringing in six champions. The tournament concluded on November 5, taking place at Liberty High School.

Many of the champions have won titles prior for 2016, while others pick up their first ever state titles. In 6A Central Catholic wins their first title since 2011, while 3A’s Cascade Christian took home their first volleyball state title. 1A’s Country Christian took home their third straight state title. For Bend, Tatiana Ensz was named the 5A Player of the Year

6A

Central Catholic dominates the 6A title match with a sweep over Clackamas 3-0, 26-24, 25-13, 25-9.

Leading Central Catholic was Maddie Batiste with 20 kills on a .389 hitting percentage. In the back row, Chanelle Lewis picked up a match-best 12 digs.

For Clackamas, Kalani Hayes put down eight kills, while Alyssa Mehalovich picked up 11 digs.

The MODA Health Players of the Game were Maddie Batiste for Central Catholic and Kalani Hayes for Clackamas.

5A

Taking the 5A championship was Bend in a sweep over Lebanon 3-0, 25-19, 25-23, 25-14.

Tatiana Ensz hammered down 15 kills for Bend on a .345 hitting percentage and eight digs. Kaci Cox added 12 kills, while setter Kaelyn Hanson dished out 34 assists.

For Lebanon, Lauren Christie put down 10 kills and six digs, while setter Maddie Norris handed out 21 assists and eight digs.

The MODA Health Players of the Game were Tatiana Ensz for Bend and for Lebanon, Lauren Christie.

4A

Going into four sets was Sisters, to take the 4A state title over Crook County 3-1, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Hawley Harrer dominated the match with a triple-double of 27 kills, 16 assists and 13 digs on a .354 hitting percentage for Sisters. Ashlynn Cantwell recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs. Defensively Brooke Knirk put down seven blocks. In the back court, two other players picked up double-digit digs – Samantha Silva (10) and Jessie Brigham (20).

For Crook County, Jennifer Roth put down 20 kills, while Jennifer McCallister added 18 kills and 11 digs for a double-double. In the back row Aspen Christiansen picked up a match-best 25 digs.

The MODA Health Players of the Game were Hawley Harrer of Sisters and Jennifer McCallister of Crook County.

3A

Taking the 3A state title was Cascade Christian in a sweep over Creswell 3-0, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.

For Cascade Christian, Caroline McMahon hammered down a match-best 15 kills on a .519 hitting percentage. Claire Hawkins added 13 kills.

Cassie Cunningham put down 14 kills for Creswell, while Hannah Wheeler added 11 kills on a .360 hitting percentage.

The MODA Health Players of the Game were Caroline McMahon for Cascade Christian and Hannah Wheeler of Creswell.

2A

Weston-McEwen swept Imbler for the 2A state championship 3-0, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22.

Sara von Borstel put down 12 kills on a .320 hitting percentage for Weston-McEwen. Sarah Finifrock added nine kills and 10 digs, while Chelsea Quaempts picked up 11 digs.

Two players recorded double-doubles for Imbler was Hannah Wilhelm with 16 kills and 11 digs, while setter Katelyn Stirewalt handed out 28 assists and 14 digs.

The MODA Health Players of the Game were Sara von Borstel of Weston-McEwen and Hannah Wilhelm of Imbler.

1A

Country Christian went four sets to take the 1A state title over North Douglas 3-1, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Posting a double-double in the match was Meghan McGrath with 12 kills and 13 digs for Country Christian. Sarah Phillips added 12 kills and Taris Krutsch with 10 kills. Three players in the back court picked up double-digit digs – Jasmine Griffith (12), Mollie Lewandowshi (15) and Anna Farner (12).

Sabrina MacDowell recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs for North Douglas. Kalli Frieze added 12 kills, while setter Rachel Colburn dished out 28 assists and 13 digs for a double-double. Two other players picked up double-digit digs in the back court – Arianna Helgren (12) and Katelyn Andes (10).

The MODA Health Players of the Game were Meghan McGrath for Country Christian and Kalli Frieze for North Douglas.
