Among its incoming freshmen additions for the fall of 2018 season, the Charlotte women’s volleyball program is also tacking on a transfer in former Tennessee Tech product Taylor Houck. A 5’10” outside hitter (who played opposite at Tennessee Tech), Houck will join the 49ers as a sophomore for 2018 with three years left of play, including immediate eligibility for the season ahead.
A native of Fletcher, North Carolina, Houck joined Tennessee Tech after attending West Henderson High School, where she was an All-Region and All-Area selection. In her lone season as a true freshman in 2017, Houck totaled 92 kills (1.61 per set), 32 blocks (0.56 per set) and 22 digs (0.39 per set) in 19 matches and 57 sets of action.
“Taylor Houck brings passion to everything she does,” Charlotte head coach Karen Weatherington said in the team’s release of the news. “Her playing experience at TTU and her athleticism make her a great fit for our program. Taylor is a hard working talent that can play at both pins. We are thrilled to see her future unfold as a future 49er.”
Charlotte will look for Houck and the other newcomers to push them over the top, as they come off of a 19-12 season in 2017 in which they went 6-8 playing in the Conference USA (C-USA). It represented a big step forward after seven wins the year prior. Now for the fall of 2018, Houck joins six other players at her position group to compete for playing time.
