Charlotte has made a pair of late additions to their 2018 roster via the transfer market in Reeana Richardson from Hampton and Simone Jeffries out of North Carolina State. Each will be immediately eligible for the fall of 2018 as Richardson has one year left of play compared to four from Jeffries.
The first transfer to join Charlotte was former Tennessee Tech outside hitter Taylor Houck. Richardson and Jeffries become the second and third in that regard to join the squad for the fall.
A soon-to-be senior outside hitter, Richardson logged 878 career kills with the Pirates and was third-team All-MEAC one season. In her latest campaign, she led Hampton with 343 kills and 3.74 points per set in a season following having brain surgery. She also notched 156 digs (1.58 per set), 35 blocks (0.35 per set) and eight aces (0.08 per set). The move gives the team more than a handful of outside hitters for 2018.
“Richardson is a complete and dynamic player with exceptional shot selection and court savvy,” Charlotte head coach Karen Weatherington said in the team’s release of the additions. “She will bring leadership to this bright, young group and I am honored to be able to coach her in her final season.”
Joining Richardson is Jeffries, a middle blocker who spent one season at North Carolina State and redshirted in 2017. Prior to her time with NC State, she attended Chantilly High School in Virginia where she was a second-team all-conference pick. She becomes the second middle blocker on the Charlotte 2018 roster.
“Jeffries brings Power 5 experience being a part of an ACC team that reached the NCAA tournament,” Weatherington added in the release. “She adds to the quickness and depth we need in the middle and her background of elite level training adds to our vision. We are so excited to have her join us.”
Charlotte finished last season at 19-12 overall and 6-8 as a member of the Conference USA.
