The finals are set for the French Men’s Pro A League finals, with Chaumont VB 52 to face off against Toulouse.
The first match of the playoffs begin on May 6.
Chaumont comes into the finals as the top seed in the tournament. In the semifinal matches to Ajaccio, they swept them in the best-of-three series. The first leg of the series ended with a three set sweep 3-0, (25-23, 26-24, 25-23). The whole match was back and forth, with Chaumont coming out on top.
In the second leg of the series, Ajaccio took Chaumont to four set, but were unable to take the victory. It was still a tough match 3-1, (25-18, 26-28, 25-21, 25-22). Chaumont took charge in the first set, but couldn’t hold on in the second dropping an extra points battle to tie the match a 1-1. The remaining two sets were all Chaumont, who will advance to the finals of the tournament.
An unlikely advancement comes from Toulouse, who took down the #3 seed in the tournament, Tours, in the quarterfinal round. The semifinals were a sweep for Toulouse over Nice to advance to the finals as a #6 seed.
In the first match between the two, Toulouse completed a three set sweep 3-0, (25-17, 25-18, 25-22) easily. While the second leg of the series proved to be much more difficult. The second set ended with a five set victory for Toulouse to move onto the finals 3-2, (25-23, 18-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-10). Toulouse took the early match lead with the first set, but faltered in the next two, going down 1-2 in the match. Toulouse took the fourth set to force a fifth and deciding set, in which Toulouse took the set and match 15-10.
