Class of 2019 recruit Amarachi Osuji has verbally committed to the University of California Riverside women’s volleyball program. A 5’10” outside hitter, Osuji would be a true freshman with UC Riverside for the fall of 2019.
Meanwhile in the prep ranks, Osuji will be a senior at Coppell High School in Texas come the new school year. Her most previous campaign was as a junior – her second year on varsity – with a team that went 38-4 and 12-0 in district before making the Texas Volleyball 6A Regional Quarterfinals.
Individually, according to her MaxPreps profile, Osuji logged 308 kills (2.6 per set) on a .225 hitting percentage, 159 digs (1.3 per set), 47 blocks (0.4 per set) and 27 aces (0.2 per set) in her first year as the full-time starter on the pin. She also plays with Lonestar Volleyball Club, specifically the 17 Red team. Video of her play with both club and high school can be seen here via her SportsRecruits profile.
UC Riverside is fresh off of a 10-18 season in 2017 in which they went 2-14 as a member of the Big West Conference. Their 2018 roster features just two outside hitters at the moment, including one senior who would open up another spot for Osuji in her inaugural year with the Highlanders.
So blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and volleyball career at the University of California Riverside! #gohighlanders 💛💙🐻 pic.twitter.com/eRV1GZzyLv
