Class of 2019 recruit Rajini Fitzmaurice has committed to the Liberty University women’s volleyball program. A 5’8″ outside hitter, defensive specialist and libero, Fitzmaurice will join Liberty for the fall of 2019 season.
A junior at Lake Mary High School in Florida, Fitzmaurice helped her school to a 17-8 season as a sophomore. Individually she logged 274 kills (4.2 per set) on a .266 mark, 176 digs (2.7 per set), 26 blocks (0.4 per set) and 15 aces (0.2 per set) according to her MaxPreps profile. For whatever reason though, she was not listed on the 2017 team roster and her stats are not shown for the season.
It’s possible that the data just hasn’t been recorded or that Fitzmaurice instead opted to just play club ball. It’s also possible she was injured for the season. Regardless, she continues her prep career on the club circuit where she plays with Top Select Volleyball Academy and the 17U Elite Team. She owns a 7’2″ standing reach, a 9’6″ block jump and a 9’11” approach jump.
Video of some of her play from 2016 when she was on the 15 Elite Team can be seen below via her YouTube channel:
Liberty is coming off of a 12-19 season in which they went 8-8 playing in the Big South. The Flames’ 2017 roster featured five outside hitters and three defensive specialists/liberos with one senior and two juniors in the group, meaning three of those eight will be graduated by the time Fitzmaurice arrives to join the positions.
I am so blessed and very excited to announce my verbal commitment to play volleyball and further my education at Liberty University! Thank you to my family, teammates and coaches for making this possible. #Goflames?? pic.twitter.com/TnBFoEujY6
