Coastal Carolina head volleyball coach Jozsef Forman announced Thursday the hiring of Simone Asque as the program’s newest assistant coach. Asque comes to Coastal from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where she served as an assistant for the women’s volleyball team during the 2016 season.

“I am very excited to have Simone join our coaching staff,” said Forman. “She is an outstanding player and an extremely hard-working coach. After having her at our summer camp, it was a no-brainer to hire her. She knows the University and she already has a great relationship with our student-athletes and staff. Her playing career also makes her a great role model for this team.”

Asque was a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2015 before serving as an assistant coach at NJIT in 2016.

In addition to her coaching experience, Asque brings a wealth of knowledge from her playing experience, both collegiately and professionally.

Asque is a 2012 graduate of the University of Virginia, where she was a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree, including a first team selection in 2009. She was also voted to the All-ACC freshman team in 2008, and was named an All-ACC Academic Team member in 2011. Asque’s efforts at UVA also earned her first team All-State and All-East honors from the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Asque closed her playing career at UVA ranked fourth all-time in career kills, fourth in kills per set and second in attack attempts.

After college, Asque played professionally in Slovakia, Cyprus and Denmark, where she named the Danish League’s top outside hitter.

As a member of the Jamaican National Team, Asque was the starting outside hitter and team captain. She led Jamaica to a gold medal at the 2016 Venus International Invitational, and was named Tournament MVP at the qualifying tournament of the World Championships as she helped Jamaica to a bronze medal finish. She was additionally named the tournament’s Best Server.

In her role as team captain, Asque performed coaching-related functions such as scouting, team development and team performance.

In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Asque has coached clubs and camps in Charlottesville, Va., and Chicago.
