Keeping with tradition, the Colorado volleyball team will once again head to Colorado Springs for its annual preseason camp at the United States Olympic Training Center.
The Buffs will be training at the USOTC August 12-18 and will be amongst some of the best athletes in the world. The camps is also a nice chance to focus solely on volleyball for a week now that summer session classes are over for members of the team.
“It’s a great experience to be down at the Olympic Training Center and to be around world-class athletes,” Colorado head coach Jesse Mahoney said. “We like to do it every year to get away, to get away from all of the distractions that are out there, and be in a place where we can be by ourselves and just focus on what we are trying to accomplish.”
The USOTC in Colorado Springs is the headquarters for the U.S. Olympic Committee administration and the Olympic Training Center programs. As of August 1998, there are 12 USOC member organizations that have their national headquarters on the complex, and 12 other member organizations and two international sports federations located nearby in Colorado Springs, including USA Volleyball.
The Buffs will return to Boulder to host the Black & Gold Scrimmage August 19. The scrimmage is set for a 3 p.m. start at Coors Events Center and is open to the public.
The season officially starts August 25 at the Oklahoma Invitational. The Buffs will face off against Northwestern State on August 25 and on August 26, CU will take on Seton Hall and former Big Eight/12 rival Oklahoma. Colorado will open the home portion of the season Sept. 2-3 with the Omni Invitational.
