In a 4-set win against Colorado State, Colorado senior Alexa Smith joined the 1,000-career kill club. The 6-1 outside hitter, who hails from Colorado Springs, Colo., is the 16th player in Buffs history to reach the milestone and the second Colorado native to accomplish the feat.

Smith registered 8 kills against Portland State, a team-high 19 kills against Indiana State and a team-high 12 kills against Colorado State to lead the Buffs to a Colorado Classic team title. She averaged 3.9 kills per set, notching a total of 39 on the weekend.

Colorado and Colorado State each received votes in VolleyMob’s most recent power rankings release.
Through 62 career matches, she has amassed 1,010 kills to rank 15th in program history. Smith, who transferred in from Purdue following her freshman season, notched 380 kills as a sophomore, tallied 484 as a junior and has 146 so far in 2018.
Colorado’s school record of 1,790 is held by Karrie Downey (1991-94). Smith is 15 kills from becoming 13th all-time (Tegan Lynch, 1,024 kills).
The Buffs, who finished their nonconference schedule with a 5-match win streak, are 8-3 on the season. Colorado opens Pac-12 play on Wednesday with a home contest against Utah. In VolleyMob’s preseason Pac-12 projection, the Buffs were chosen to finish 6th in the field of 12 teams.
