NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Dayton senior Lauren Bruns was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Fordham junior Morgan Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week. George Washington freshman Bella Bowman was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. All awards were for matches played Sept. 10-16.
Bruns was named the MVP of the Flyer Invitational this past weekend after averaging 4.77 kills per set while hitting .382. The outside hitter from Versailes, Ohio, opened the weekend with a career-high 28 kills in a 3-2 win over Tennessee on Friday. In a five-set thriller over Ohio State Saturday night, she tallied 22 kills after a 12-kill outing in a three-set sweep of Evansville. For the week, Bruns averaged 4.92 points per set to lead Dayton to a perfect 3-0 record. The honor was Bruns’ second straight and third in 2018.

Williams averaged 4.79 digs per set to lead the Rams to a 3-1 record last week with wins over Manhattan, St. Francis Brooklyn and Dartmouth. The libero from Los Angeles, Calif., recorded double-digit digs in all four matches including two performances with more than 20 digs.

Bowman recorded double-digit kills in every match last week for the Colonials who went 3-0. For the week, the libero from Louisville, Ky., averaged 4.36 digs per set.
