Dinamo Kazan and Bursa BBSK each earned the lower-tier women’s European cups titles for 2017. The wins for the teams come ahead of the Champions League Final Four next weekend in Treviso.
Dinamo Kazan def. Unet Yamamay Busto Arsizio
Dinamo went down quick in the match 0-2, having to fight back for a victory. The squad pulled off a huge comeback to tie the match up at 2-2, to force a fifth and deciding set.
Their momentum from the two prior sets was enough to push them ahead to a fifth set victory for the 3-2, (23-25, 16-25, 25-12, 25-21, 15-12) victory and the 2017 CEV Cup title.
After their Champions League success in 2014, this is Kazan’s second European title.
Iirna Voronkova scored 19 points for Dinamo to lead the team to victory, despite not playing in the fifth set. For Busto, Valentina Diouf, who also didn’t see any fifth set action, managed to score a match-best 22 points.
Bursa BBSK def. Olympiacio
Bursa swept Olympiacio 3-0, (25-15, 25-16, 25-23) to claim the 2017 Challenge Cup title. Bursa out-blocked and out-served Olympiacia 11-2 in blocks and 6-1 in aces for the match.
Joycinha da Silva was the leading scorer of the match with 21 points, while Dora Horvath added another 13 points for Bursa.
This is the second Challenge Cup title for Bursa, as they took the title two years ago in 2015 over Uralochka NTMK Ekaterinburg.
