It was a battle to the finish, but, in the end, the home crowd went home happy as 20th ranked Australians Christopher McHugh and Damien Schumann outlasted 14th-ranked Canadians Sam Pedlow/Sam Schachter for the Commonwealth Games gold on Thursday.
World #1 Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan of Canada proved they were also the best on the Gold Coast as well, besting homestanding Australians Mariafe Artacho de Solar and Taliqua Clancy for the Commonwealth Games gold medal on Thursday.
World #1 Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan of Canada will take on No. 19 Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy of Australia in the women’s final. On the men’s side, Canada’s Sam Pedlow/Sam Schachter, who are ranked No. 14 in the FIVB World listings, will battle Australia’s No. 20 Christopher McHugh and Damien Schumann for gold.
Wednesday’s semifinal field has been determined after four men’s and four women’s quarterfinal matches at the Commonwealth Games. The top four men’s teams made it through, but two top 100 teams were knocked out on the women’s side.
