Fairfield University (21-6, 16-0 MAAC) has claimed its third-straight MAAC Volleyball Regular Season Championship and 17th in program history. As the MAAC Regular Season Champion, the Stags earn the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming championship and receive a first round bye.
After tonight’s three-set victory over Siena College, Fairfield extends its winning streak to 17 matches in a row. The Stags have won 44-straight conference regular season matches dating to October 22, 2015. Fairfield notched its third consecutive 20-win season, and sixth in eight years under Head Coach Todd Kress.
The 2017 MAAC Volleyball Championship takes place November 17-19, from Alumni Hall on the campus of Fairfield University. As the No. 1 overall seed, Fairfield plays its first match of the championship in the semifinals on Saturday, November 18, at 2:00 p.m. against either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed.
Five Stags have garnered MAAC Volleyball Weekly award honors this season. Senior outside hitter Skyler Day (three-time recipient), senior outside hitter Megan Theiller (November 7), sophomore setter Manuela Nicolini (September 26), and sophomore outside hitter/right-side hitter Mayda Garcia (September 5) all earned MAAC Player of the Week honors. Junior defensive specialist Taylor Rudeen (August 29) claimed the MAAC Libero of the Week award.
After tonight’s result, Niagara University (17-8, 13-3 MAAC) has secured the No. 2 seed in the 2017 MAAC Volleyball Championship.
