Class of 2018 recruit Kirstine Garder has committed to the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) women’s volleyball program to play both indoor and on the beach. Garder will therefore be a freshman for the fall season indoors in 2018, with the spring season in 2019 representing her first in the sand.

A 5’11” outside hitter indoors, Garder hails from Halden, Norway where she played for Toppvolley Norge. She also has experience playing for country, as she was with the junior national team for indoors and beach starting at 13 years old until she was 17 in 2016 when she got promoted to the senior squad. With the team, she’s participated in several tournaments indoors. In the sand it’s even better, as she’s a five-time youth national champion and placed as high as fifth in the prestigious European Championship.

“The addition of Kirstine immediately strengthens both our indoor and beach programs,” FGCU volleyball head coach Mark Botsford said in the team’s release of the signing. “She is a special talent with a ton of high-level experience who will contribute on the court and in the sand. She is a pin attacker with excellent ball skills, a heavy arm and a great feel for the game. With the ability to pass and attack at a high level, I expect her transition to the collegiate game to go smoothly. Kirstine is a very driven and goal-oriented young woman who will fit in perfectly with the FGCU volleyball culture.”

Indoors, FGCU is coming off of a 22-10 season in which they went 10-4 in the Atlantic Sun. Their 2018 roster currently features five players with outside hitter ability.

Specifically on the beach, Garder becomes the fifth commit registered in the VolleyMob Recruiting Database for their 2018 class that plays in the 2019 season. They are in the midst of a 15-11 season
