Former Ohio State outside hitter Luisa Schirmer has signed a contract with Belgium club Asterix Avo Volley until the end of the season. The club currently leads the Belgium Liga A league with just one loss on the year and will play for their 18th consecutive final of the Belgium Cup next month.
The team has had a number of players leave, as Sarah Cool left the pursue a beach career while Amber De Tant has been unavailable due to an injury. Justine D’Hondt filled the role of De Tant, but there have been an insufficient amount of subs in tough matches. Schirmer comes in to fill that void for the team. Though she has agreed to play, it may take some time to make her eligible to play in the league with administrative things to be filled out properly.
In her time with the Buckeyes, Schirmer posted 1,043 kills and 1,004 digs to be apart of an elite club to break the 1,000 kill and dig club. She led the team with 352 kills in her senior campaign along with 21 aces. She also accumulated 247 digs, 28 blocks and 27 assists on the year. In 2017, she was named as an AVCA All-Northeast Region honorable mention.
