More news is surrounding the Texas volleyball program following a blog post from freshman Olivia Zelon.

The blog, “Why Walking Away Was The Best Decision” was posted on February 22, 2018, talking about Zelon’s change of attitude toward the sport of volleyball. A sport she grew up playing and loving changed for her following her only season with the Longhorns. The blog is Zelon’s parting words from the Longhorn volleyball program, posting that “after 10 years of playing the sport I truly loved, I quit.”

This past season, Zelon sat on the bench for the 27-3, NCAA Elite Eight Longhorn squad, sitting behind the team’s strong libero Cat McCoy. The Texas roster showed five liberos for the past season, making it a tough battle for Zelon to make it into the lineup during the 2017 season.

The post that called her teammates “unhappy” and “not satisfied with their lives” struck a tone with many of her teammates and former Texas volleyballers leading to them post their reactions on Twitter.

In other news that is surrounding the Texas volleyball program comes from another player deciding to leave the program following one season – Lexi Sun. Sun was the top prospect coming out of high school and posted 337 kills on the season along with 151 digs and 65 blocks. It is unknown yet where Sun will end up but there is a mix of top schools from around the country that have shown their interest in the to-be sophomore.
