Georgetown University’s volleyball team travels to Queens, N.Y., to take on St. John’s in BIG EAST action on Wednesday night. The Hoyas and Red Storm are battling for position in the league standings as the first half of conference play winds down.

Georgetown (7-11, 1-5 BIG EAST) is coming off a lone weekend loss to travel partner Villanova on Saturday. Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) led the Hoyas with nine kills and four blocks while Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) added seven kills and seven digs. Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) tallied 21 assists to go with seven digs, three blocks and three service aces. Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) had a team-high nine digs for the Blue & Gray.
Speech continues to lead the Hoyas with 3.59 kills per set and is hitting at a BIG EAST-best .402 clip while Sinnette adds 2.53 kps from the outside. McKnight averages 9.38 assists per set while Higareda anchors the back row defensively with 4.00 digs per set.
St. John’s (10-12, 2-5 BIG EAST) recently snapped a three-match conference losing streak with a five-set victory at Xavier. Julia Cast leads the Red Storm with 4.04 kills per set while Jordan McCalla and Kayley Wood chip in more than two kills a frame as well. Erica Di Maulo paced the offense with 10.38 assists per set. Delaney D’Amore and Amanda Sanabia both haul in more than three digs a set while Danisha Moss and Hanna Wagner average more than a block a stanza at the net.
Georgetown is 9-18 all-time against the Red Storm. The Hoyas last defeated St. John’s in a five-set affair in Queens in 2013.
Following Wednesday’s match, the Blue & Gray return to the friendly confines of McDonough Arena to close out the first half of BIG EAST play. Georgetown hosts DePaul on Saturday and Marquette on Sunday, with both matches slated for a 2 p.m. first serve.
