The 2018 CEV Volleyball European League is set to begin in mid-May with as many as 26 National Federations participating and a record-breaking amount of prize money to be awarded. It has been confirmed that the Czech Republic and Hungary will host the men’s and women’s finals for the top tier (Golden European League) while the Silver European League finals will be hosted by Former Y.R. of Macedonia and Sweeden for men and women, respectively.
The Golden European League will host 12 teams while the Silver League will have 8 per gender.
The gold and silver medal winners from the Golden European League will qualify for the FIVB Challenger Cup. The eventual winners of the Challenger Cup will face off in a pair of matches with the lowest-ranked team from the Challengers of the FIVB Nations League. The winner of these two matches will earn a spot in the 2019 edition of the Nations League competition.
The finals for the Golden European League will take place from June 13-14 (men) in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic and June 14-15 (women) in Budapest, Hungary.
For the Silver European League, the finals will take place from June 15-16 (men) in Skopje, Macedonia and June 16-17 (women) in Nykoping, Sweeden. The winners of the league will move up to the Golden European League in 2019, replacing the lowest-ranked team from the 2018 edition.
