After dropping a huge five set match to No. 2 ranked Minnesota this past week, the Nebraska volleyball team was selected as the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening.

This is the first time that the Huskers have been named the No. 1 overall seed since 2006.

The team will have the opportunity to play four matches on the home court, trying to advance to this year’s final four in Columbus, Ohio. The 2016 season marks the 32nd time that Lincoln will have hosted NCAA first and second round competition.

The defending champions are making their 35th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and will open the tournament on December 2 at 7 pm against New Hampshire, champions of the America East Conference. The prior match at 4:30 pm features Wichita State and TCU, the winners of each match will meet December 3 at 7 pm to advance to the next round.

The Huskers ended their regular season 27-2, 18-2 B1G, to take their second ever Big Ten championship. Their loses this season came to Ohio State in four sets back on October 1 and to No. 2 Minnesota in five on November 23.

Nebraska is 98-30 in 34 previous NCAA Tournament appearances, ranking second among NCAA schools in wins and winning percentage.

The Huskers look to win their fifth national title and the first ever Nebraska team to win two consecutive years in a row.
