Fordham has announced Ian Choi as the head coach of the program, promoting him from the assistant coaching position.

The 2018 season will be Choi’s second with the program, as he came in as an assistant for the 2017 season behind former coach Gini Ullery-Shrift who resigned her role following the season. This past season, the Rams went 12-15 on the year and just 4-10 in conference play, keeping them out of the postseason.

Choi’s main roles with the team were to train the middle blockers and liberos, oversee scouting and served as the recruiting coordinator.

Prior to his time with Fordham, Choi spent two seasons with San Jose State as an assistant coach. There, Choi obtained his master’s degree in Kinesiology and had the same responsibilities. While Choi was assistant with San Jose State, the team saw their second-highest rise in RPI. Even before San Jose State, he was a student assistant at Texas while earning his bachelors degree. Following graduation at Texas, Choi moved onto Kansas for one season where he trained the liberos and defensive specialists, helping the Jayhawks earn an NCAA Tournament at-large bid.
