Class of 2019 middle blocker/outside hitter/right side Taila Gaines has committed to the Jackson State University women’s volleyball program.
Gaines is a senior at New Smyrna Beach High School in Florida. So far this season for a team that is 24-3, Gaines has posted 152 kills (2.1 per set) on a .394 hitting percentage, 85 digs (1.2 per set), 82 blocks (1.1 per set) and 35 aces (0.5 per set) according to her MaxPreps profile.
Standing at 6’0″ tall, Gaines also owns an 8’7″ standing reach and a 9’5″ approach jump. She plays her club ball for DME Volleyball. Video highlights of her play from the 2018 ASICS Junior Regional Volleyball Championship can be seen below via YouTube:
Jackson State is 8-16 so far for the 2018 season and 6-3 as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). They currently have two middles (both freshmen), five who can fill in on the right side (two freshmen, two sophomores, one junior) and five who can play on the left side (one freshman, one sophomore and three juniors).
