Jiangsu Zenith Steel of Nanjing took home their first ever women’s China League in a four set match to Zhejiang Rural Commercial Bank of Jiashan 3-1, (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20).
The score was close in the opening set of the match with Nanjing taking the early 11-9 lead, before propelling themselves to a 24-18 lead. Jiashan fought off three match points before Gong Xiangyu was able to finish the first set 25-21 for Nanjing.
In the second set, the score was back and forth, eventually being tied at 11-11. Nanjing was able to make the score 22-20 late in the set; however, couldn’t hold on, dropping the set 23-25. The third set featured Nanjing showing off their dominance holding a five point lead late in the set 20-15. This is a lead they would hold the remainder of the set to go up 2-1 in the match 25-20.
In the final set of the match, Jiashan took a 14-13 lead midway through the set, but Nanjing was able to take back the lead using errors and strong offense to win their first title 25-20.
Hui Ruoqi and Zhang Changning were the top scorers for Nanjing with 20 points a piece while Xiangyyu added another 17. For the losing side, Li Jing recorded a match-best 27 points in the match.
Nanjing has been a four-time runner-up and three-time bronze medalist in the past two decades.
