2017 Taipei Summer Universiade (World University Games) – Men’s Tournament

In what appears to be the norm for this season’s international events, Taipei’s Universiade’s semifinals will be dominated by three Asian teams, with Japan, Russia, Iran, and Ukraine battling it out for the gold. Below, you will find updated brackets and game recaps from today’s action.

Iran beat the Czech Republic 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-20) behind Farhad Pirout’s 19 points. Martin Hladik had 15 points in the losing effort.

Ukraine beat Brazil 3-1 (25-20, 25-13, 25-21, 25-16) behind Maksym Drozd‘s 17 points. Marcus Costa had 16 points in the losing effort.

Russia beat Argentina 3-2 (22-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-11) behind Vadim Likhosherstov’s 15 points. Federico Martina had 26 points in the losing effort.

Japan beat Portugal 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-20) behind Taichi Fukuyama’s nine points. Lourenço Martins had 15 points in the losing effort.

France beat 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-21) behind Timothee Carle’s 12 points. Roberto Rincon had nine points in the losing effort.

Canada beat Romania 3-2 (20-25, 25-16, 18-25, 26-24, 15-13) behind Bradley Branch’s and Singh Brar’s 20 points each. Ciprian Matei had 18 points in the losing effort.

Switzerland beat Hong Kong 3-1 (26-28, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20) behind Joel Roos’s 14 points. Alex Chan had 17 points in the losing effort.

Hosts Taipei beat Korea 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-22) behind Hong-Jie Liu’s 14 points. Inhyeok Kim had 10 points in the losing effort.
