2018 could be a huge season for the Illinois women’s volleyball program. They’re coming off of a 23-victory season where they made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and now return six starters to the fold for 2018. In fact, we have them ranked 11th in our Way-Too-Early 2018 VolleyMob Top 25 Power Rankings.
One of those returners and keys to the team’s success is Jordyn Poulter, who was AVCA All-America Third Team last season (after being AVCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2016) behind dishing out 10.69 assists per set and tacking on 2.41 digs per set.
In discussing some of last year, what to look forward to this season and plenty more, Poulter talked with Andy Katz through the NCAA. The first question she was asked was in regards to what she remembered from last season.
“Just coming into the gym everyday with the mindset we were trying to get better that day,” Poulter said in the video below.
That’s a perfect representation of what happened. The team went from 17 wins in 2016 to six more in 2017. Now, it appears that 2018 is about getting even stronger but more about refinement than making that big jump than they made last season.
