Earning the seasons first Division II AVCA Player of the Week is Lewis’ Elizabeth Hyland after guiding her team to a 4-0 weekend at the Hawaii Challenge with a win over then-#3 Nebraska-Kearney. The 4-0 start for Lewis shoots them from the #8 ranked team to #3 in the nation for Division II programs.
Over the course of the week, Hyland played in 14 sets putting down 4.64 kills per set on a .359 hitting clip while also picking up an average of 2.14 digs per set.
Hyland’s stats for the week:
- Colorado Springs – 16 kills on 23 attempts with just two errors for a .609 hitting clip, while also adding two aces, a block assist and four digs
- Chaminade – 14 kills on 28 attempts with just one error for a .464 hitting percentage, adding one assist, one ace and three digs
- Nebraska-Kearney – 23 kills on 53 attempts with nine errors for a .264 hitting percentage while adding one ace, one block assist and 18 digs for a double-double
- Hawaii Pacific – 12 kills on 27 attempts with six errors for a .222 hitting clip while adding two assists and five digs
Of the four matches, Hyland led the team in kills in three of the four matches.
In addition to being named the AVCA Player of the Week, Hyland was also named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Hyland is just the fourth player to be recognized with the award at Lewis, with the most recent coming last season when Aly Schneider won the award on September 6th.
