A week after earning her 10th ever Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week award, Missouri State’s Lily Johnson collected yet another. This time, her honor gives her a conference record as she now has more MVC Player of the Week’s than any other player in conference history.
En route to this honor, Johnson broke another record as she became Missouri State’s all-time kills leader with a 27-kill performance as she now is just 55 kills away from the 2,000 mark. She would be the first player in MVC history to do that as well, as she is only four kills from the conference record held by Bradley’s Lindsay Stalzer for career kills.
Beyond career marks, Johnson’s 11th and record-breaking MVC Player of the Week honor came as Missouri State amassed 4.69 kills and 2.81 digs per set. Although the Bears fell to a receiving votes Washington State squad, Johnson gave Missouri State a great shot at a win as she notched 23 kills and 22 digs – the second ever 20-20 match in school history, with the other coming from Johnson as well.
While Johnson grabs the headlines, two others earned MVC weekly honors in Yavianliz Rosado of Bradley and Brittany Anderson of Valparaiso.
Rosado, a libero for Bradley, earns the MVC Defensive Player of the Week award after totaling 6.31 digs per set and helping the Braves to a 4-0 week. In total, Bradley held the opposition down to a .153 hitting percentage in the four victories.
Valparaiso’s Brittany Anderson won the third and final award as the MVC Freshman of the Week. A setter, Anderson logged 12.27 assists and 3.55 digs per set in three matches, as now she prepares for conference play with Valparaiso in the MVC for the first time.
