Yesterday, Lindsey Wilson captured their first NAIA Championship in a four-set win over Dordt (Iowa) in Sioux City, Iowa. This accomplishment did not come without some scares in the finals match as two Lindsey Wilson players went down with injuries in the match.

The tournament’s MVP, Makenzie Montano went down with a minor ankle injury that allowed her to continue to play in the second set and throughout the remainder of the match, while teammate Yeniffer Ramirez was not so lucky. Ramirez went down with a leg injury in the third that kept her out of the remainder of the match.

Montano is the Blue Raiders main setter, leading the squad to their undefeated, 35-0, season. In the finals match, Montano dished out 50 assists along with nine digs to nearly accomplish a double-double. In addition, Montano put down five kills and one block for the match. On the year, Montano dished out 1,270 assists for an average of 11.5 assists per set. She also put down 142 kills on a .412 hitting performance while adding in 26 aces. On defense, Montano picked up 278 digs and stuffed 56 balls.

Before going down with the injury, Ramirez put down nine kills for the Blue Raiders along with three digs. On the year, Ramirez ranked fourth on the team in kills with 231 on a .308 hitting clip.

The Lindsey Wilson senior class, Montano and Ramirez both being seniors, finished their careers with a 142-11 record and never lost a match at home.
