Kansas continues to horde the Big 12 Offensive Player of Week award as Madison Rigdon is the latest recipient for the Jayhawks. Through three straight weeks, Kansas has won all the offensive weekly awards as Ainise Havili and Kelsie Payne won the first two with Rigdon now joining the duo.
The award caps off a memorable week for Rigdon, who notched her 1,000th career kill as Kansas went 3-1 in week through with two top-20 victories. Individually, she totaled 4.38 points per set on a .342 hitting percentage. She was vital in the team’s biggest wins too, as Rigdon had a double-double in one of those ranked wins (Purdue) with 15 kills and 10 digs and 16 kills while hitting .577 in a Labor Day victory over a top-15 Kentucky squad.
Joining Rigdon on the week three Big 12 awards are Alexis Conaway of Iowa State and Lexi Sun of Texas.
Conaway’s big match came against in-state rival Iowa, as she notched eight total blocks in the win for Iowa State, spearheading her campaign for the week three Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. Those eight were followed up by two blocks in two sets of action in Iowa State’s second and final match of the week as they went 2-0 to move to #23 in the latest VolleyMob Top 25. In total, the senior middle blocker logged 1.67 blocks per set this past weekend en route to her second career Big 12 defensive weekly award.
Texas freshman outside hitter Lexi Sun is starting a trend like Kansas is for the offensive award as Sun takes home her second straight Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor. Sun recorded 43 kills (4.78 per set) while hitting .330, 24 digs, seven blocks and two aces. In total, Texas went 2-1 this past weekend with their lone loss coming to a top-five team in Minnesota. Even in the loss, Sun impressed with a team-high 19 kills to go with 13 digs.
