Tonight, the Minnesota Gophers will take on Illinois in a home match that follows up a four-set win over Wisconsin on October 21.

The Gophers have had a stand-out season, having multiple players that are able to get the job done. Overall, Minnesota is 19-2 on the season, with their two losses coming in conference play to Michigan State and Nebraska – both in a row.

Hugh McCutcheon said it best, “I think you learn more from a loss than your successes.” This has proved true for the Gophers as they have been nearly unstoppable since their downfalls at the end of September.

The squads leading scorers have come in the team’s youth – freshman Stephanie Samedy and Alexis Hart. On any given night, a different player could play a tremendous role for the Gophers. The team has a great setting leader in Samantha Seliger-Swenson, who has time and time again shown her leadership on the court. So far this season, Seliger-Swenson has dished out 886 assists for an average of 12.31 assists per set – this ranks her second in the nation.

Indiana will be a tough opponent for the Gophers if they are playing up to a high level. The Illini are coming off a loss at Nebraska and are heading into yet another top-10 matchup with Minnesota.

For Minnesota to take the charge and have a successful evening, they will need to have one or more players stepping up.
