NCAA Division III Elite Eight Set, Defending Champs Calvin Among Teams

2017 NCAA TOURNAMENT – DIVISION III

The Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III National Tournament has been set, with the first rounds of play complete.

The 2016 champion, Calvin have fought their way through two five-set matches to make their way back into the final eight teams. The runners-up from last season, Washington-St. Louis saw Calvin in the first round of play, where they dropped a five-set comeback attempt.

Elite Eight Match-Ups

  • #1 Wittenberg vs. #8 Swarthmore
  • #2 Emory vs. #7 Ithaca
  • #3 Claremont vs. #6 Gust. Adolphus
  • #4 Johnson & Wales (R.I.) vs. #5 Calvin

Wittenberg and Emory bulldozed their way to the final eight squads in the tournament. Johnson & Wales remain unbeaten for the year as they fought through Elms, Wesleyan (Conn.) and MIT on their road to the ending of the tournament. Calvin fought through two five-setters, one over 2016 runners-up Washington-St. Louis and Carthage to advance. In each of the five-set matches, Calvin was ahead 2-0 in the match with their opponent fighting back on them to force a fifth set.

The Elite Eight is set to begin on November 16. and the champion will be determined on November 18.
