No. 2 Nebraska Earns Seven AVCA North Region Honors

This season, Nebraska has earned seven of the AVCA North Region honors.

For the fifth time in his career, John Cook has been awarded AVCA Region Coach of the Year. Cook led the Huskers to their second Big Ten title and the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament.

Kadie Rolfzen of Nebraska is the only player in the region that is earning her fourth AVCA North Region honor. This season K. Rolfzen is putting down 3.21 kills/set and 2.48 digs/set. She is hitting a career-best .299 and has a career-high 24 service aces.

Three players are selected to their third AVCA North Region honor: Autumn Bailey (Michigan State), Abby Cole (Michigan) and Briana Holman (Nebraska). Holman is earning her first award with the Huskers, earning her previous two with LSU.

Autumn Bailey has posted 356 kills this season with 3.15 kills/set. Bailey also tallied 303 dig on the season.

Abby Cole has put down 381 kills so far this season and a .322 hitting percentage. Cole leads Michigan with 123 blocks on the season.

Briana Holman is hitting a Husker-best .343 this season and is averaging 1.19 blocks/set. Homan earned the espnW National Player of the Week in the first week of the season after leading the Huskers to victories over No. 10 Florida and No. 2 Texas.

Six players are earning their second AVCA North Region honors: Mikaela Foecke (Nebraska), Kelly Hunter (Nebraska), Amber Rolfzen (Nebraska), Samantha Seliger-Swenson (Minnesota), Hannah Tapp (Minnesota) and Justine Wong-Orantes (Nebraska).

Mikaela Foecke has posted 2.94 kills per set and a .309 hitting percentage on the season.

Kelly Hunter has dished out 11.25 assists/set this season. Hunter leads the Huskers with nine double-doubles on the season and was a four-time Big Ten Setter of the Week.

Amber Rolfzen has posted 1.43 blocks per set, while hitting for .314 this season.

Samantha Seliger-Swenson was named the Big Ten Setter of the Year, and has dished out 1,328 assists so far this season. Seliger-Swenson has also earned four Big Ten Setter of the Week awards.

Hannah Tapp is third for Minnesota in kills with 303, has 2.71 kills/set and 1.04 blocks/set.

Justine Wong-Orantes earned the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award for the second season in a row, Wong-Orantes has become the Nebraska all-time career digs leader.

Minnesota’s Alexis Hart earned AVCA Freshman of the Year. Hart ranks second for the Gophers in kills with 327, and has a .249 hitting percentage which ranks first among Big Ten freshman. She has also earned three Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.
