North Texas secured three honors in this week’s Conference USA awards with Amanda Chamberlain earning the Offensive Player of the Week. North Texas also securing honors in setter Karley York and freshman Barbara Teakell. Also earning honors this week is Western Kentucky’s, Sydney Engle.
Offensive Player of the Week
Amanda Chamberlain – North Texas – senior
Chamberlain has helped the Mean Green to their best conference start since 2002. This week Chamberlain posted 37 kills in two matches for an average of 4.62 kills per set on a .423 hitting clip. In the nation, Chamberlain has a .465 hitting percentage on the year, which ranks her third in the NCAA Division I.
In the team’s win against UTEP, Chamberlain put down 19 kills on a .536 hitting performance while adding in three blocks and three digs. Against Florida Atlantic, Chamberlain contributed another 18 kills in the win which propelled her over 900 career kills.
Defensive Player of the Week
Sydney Engle – WKU – senior
Engle helped the Lady Toppers to a 3-0 weekend, with 22 digs and was perfect in 22 serve receive attempts. Additionally, Engle posted six blocks.
Against FIU, Engle posted three aces in the win and a perfect serving rate on 14 attempts. Engle also produced 19 kills on a .349 hitting clip and 12 assists.
Setter of the Week
Karley York – North Texas – junior
This is York’s first setting honor of the season after North Texas posted two league wins this week. In both matches, York dished out more than 50 assists for an average of 13.62 assists per set – in the country, York has an average of 11.70 assists per set which is ninth best in the NCAA Division I.
Freshman of the Week
Barbara Teakell – North Texas – freshman
Teakell posted her first 20 kill performance this week, and a total of 34 kills on the weekend on a .386 hitting clip. Against Florida Atlantic, Teakell posted 20 kills and 12 digs with four blocks and a pair of assists.
