The 2017 volleyball season has not been the most ideal for Northwestern’s Kaitlin Tavarez but her teammates have helped her through her trying times.
Back in July/August, Tavarez was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma which forced her to take a leave of absence from Northwestern and go back home to California to begin radiation treatments. With this, it has kept Tavarez off the court this season, but it has not slowed the bond with her teammates, who are helping her through her fight.
With this, her teammates created a lymphoma awareness night to raise money for the HeadStrong Foundation to honor her courage. The team also created the mantra “Fight for KT.”
Now, Tavarez is still fighting through treatments and is looking to getting back out on the court with her teammates back in Evanston.
Sometimes life has a way of working itself out.

In 2015, Tavarez used up her red-shirt year, not playing in any matches while taking to the court the following season. Tavarez appeared in 18 matches and across 47 sets for the season, picking up 98 digs for an average of 2.09 digs per set. Additionally, she dished out 16 assists and put down three aces in her first season of play.
