Sokol Schwechat Wins 5-Set Thriller At Women’s Challenge Cup

VB No Sokol Schwechat fought through a 1-2 deficit to take down Zok Osijek in the first part of the second round of the 2017 Women’s CEV Challenge Cup. The next round of matches will take place from November 27-30 in the away section of matches.

Second Round Home Matches

  • UVC Holding Graz def. Slavie EU Bratislava 3-1, (25-16, 20-25, 25-15, 25-21)

Eva Dumphart and Ursula Ehrhart led UVC with 18 points each in the team’s four-set win over Slavie EU.

  • VB NO Sokol Schwechat def. Zok Osijek 3-2, (25-20, 24-26, 12-25, 25-22, 15-11)

VB NO Sokol had a line-up of steady scorers to lead them to a five-set win over Zok Osijek. Irena Mishonova scored 20 points in the win along with Jasmin Haslinger and Paula Kubova posting 19 and 18 points, respectively.

  • Charleroi Volley def. Polkky Kuusamo 3-1, (20-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-23)

Despite not having the top-three scorers, Charleroi took the four-set win over Polkky. Johanna Willemina Alons led the squad with 16 points while Juliette Thevenin added another 15 points. The top-three scorers in the match came from the losing squad – Olena Prokopenko (19), Essi Helminen (18) and Malina Terrell (17).

  • Minis de Arluy VB Logrono def. AVC Famalicao 3-0, (25-20, 25-19, 25-20)
  • Ibsa CV Las Palmas def. Amigos-Van Pelt Zoersel 3-2, (25-22, 24-26, 14-25, 25-16, 15-9)

After taking the first set, Ibsa dropped the following two, falling behind in the match 1-2. They forged a comeback by winning the fourth and fifth sets by large margins. Saray Manzano led Ibsa with 20 points while Sara Folgueira and Amber Cannady added another 14 and 13 points, respectively.
