Novara Wins 5 Set Comeback Over Fenerbahce In Champions League

2018 CEV CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – WOMEN

Igor Gorgonzola Novara was able to complete a comeback over Fenerbahce SK Istanbul after going down 0-2 in the match. The Italian side won 3-2, (24-26, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-6) over the Turkish squad.

It was a tough first-set that go away from Novara with Fenerbahce winning in extra points 26-24 which fueled their momentum to grab set two 25-19. The third saw Novara charge out to an 8-6 lead with Fenerbahce clawing back late in the set. Novara was able to handle the end taking their first set of the match 25-22 and carrying the momentum swing in their direction to win the fourth 25-19. The final set of the match saw the Italian squad dominate, taking the set and match 15-6.

Leading Novara to the win was Paola Ogechi Egonu with 28 points. Egonu has been a player on the rise in Italy while helping the Novara side to a first-place standing in the Italian Serie A1 thus far in the season. Also contributing big for Novara was Cristina Chirchella and Lauren Gibbemeyer with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

On the losing side, Polina Rahimova led all players with 33 points while Mia Jerkov and Dicle Nur Babat added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Up next, Novara will face off against Agel Prostejov while Fenerbahce will try their hands at Imoco Volley Conegliano.
